Minthis Hills Golf Club
Paphos, Cyprus
Tsada Golf Club (now Minthis Hills) was the first course in Cyprus and, facing the stiff new competition with up to ten new courses being planned on the island, improvement and expansion was essential.
Originally built on a tight budget by inexperienced local contractors and without supervision from the original architects, Donald Steel & Company, there was plenty that needed to be done.
After an initial course survey, the project scope was agreed, including the reconstruction of every tee, and bunker, the levelling off of four existing fairways, four new greens and a new practice ground, not to mention the installation of an extensive new irrigation system.
A new 14th hole, pictured right, involved building a terrace wall to protect an area of important habitat down the left side of this driveable, short par four.
With a recent change of ownership at Minthis Hills, new plans are being developed to further improve the course.
