Liphook
Hampshire, England
Liphook was the home club of renowned golf course architect Tom Simpson and there is little doubt that he played a large hand in shaping the course as it stands today.
In common with many heathland courses, trees are having an adverse impact on the original design strategies and the advisory report centred on the need to protect the remaining heather and to start to restore areas that have been lost.
The report also looked at ways to improve the holes that have been most adversely affected since the course was in its heyday. The advancements in technology have had their effect, but so too have changes that have been made over the years - some less than ideal.
The report was under-pinned with Simpson’s extensive correspondence and articles, many of which were excellently illustrated. It was, therefore, possible to see how much the original design intent had been changed.
