Killeen at Killarney
County Kerry, Ireland
The Killeen Course at Killarney Golf Club has been the scene of many exciting events over the years, such as the Carroll’s Irish Open, when it was in its prime, and the Curtis Cup. After years of struggling to maintain the course to the highest standards, the Club decided that a full reconstruction was the only option and initial plans were drawn up by Donald Steel & Company. We updated these plans and construction went ahead in 2005, with the course re-opening in July 2006.
Major adjustments were made to holes such as
the 7th, where a piped ditch was re-opened to form a new stream and pool, and on the picturesque 4th hole, where the green was moved further out towards Lough Leane. The notoriously treacherous 13th hole was stretched to restore the difficulty for the longest players who were starting to reach the green with ease.
The project involved rebuilding every green, tee
and bunker along with extensive drainage installation.
