Carnegie Links at Skibo Castle

When a change of ownership took place at Skibo Castle, it soon became clear that the course was going to receive considerable investment.

Having been closely involved with the original design back in 1992 and having played the course on many occasions since, it was an unusual exercise to carry out a critique of the course. Considerable opportunities for improvement were available, because the original planning negotiations were restrictive and prevented the use of some land. Through expanding the club’s management role, permission was granted for a significant re-routing of the 12th, 13th and 14th holes, and major reshaping of the 2nd and 7th holes, nine new tees, major re-bunkering on many holes. The plan was produced working closely with their Golf Director David Thompson and then Course Manager Gary Gruber.

The Club has hosted the Northern Open in recent years, establishing itself as a highly popular venue. It is ranked at 27 in the UK and Ireland by Golf World Magazine.
